Hybrid Hoarding Treatment Training Coming Soon!
Lightening the Load Counseling is pleased to offer an upcoming CE training on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Puyallup and online. This 6.0-hour continuing education training, “Clinical Treatment for Hoarding Disorder: Seeing Past the Clutter,” is approved by WMHCA for master’s-level clinicians.
Limited spots are available for this hard-to-find training on hoarding disorder, which addresses both clinical treatment and community interventions to address hoarding in the community.

Course objectives for this training include:
- Describe the history of research around hoarding behaviors related to the current diagnostic criteria for hoarding disorder (HD).
- Give examples of the various vulnerability factors for developing HD according to the biopsychosocial model of HD.
- Demonstrate an ability to assess vulnerability factors in individual clients and formulate an effective treatment plan utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat HD.
- Apply elements of motivational interviewing (MI) and compassion-focused therapy (CFT) to treatment to address low motivation or self-worth issues that complicate treatment for HD.
- Explain the challenges families and communities face as the result of an individual’s hoarding behaviors and be able to advocate for the ethical treatment of the individual while managing safety and health issues.
- Review the ethical decision-making process and apply it to treatment that measures success in removing possessions from the client’s home.
